VOLUME XXV. THE COLLECTION OF THE AL-BIRUNI INSTITUTE OF ORIENTAL STUDIES, THE ACADEMY OF SCIENCES OF THE REPUBLIC OF UZBEKISTAN PART FIVE MINIATURE AND CALLIGRAPHY

The book-album “The Collection of the al-Biruni Institute of Oriental Studies, the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan” of the “Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan in World Collections” series consists of five parts and each part has its own thematic direction. Besides the works made in the territory of Uzbekistan, manuscripts of other regions of the medieval Orient are presented, demonstrating the importance of the treasure house of the al-Biruni Institute of Oriental Studies of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan in its entire geographical, thematic and chronological scope. Part Five (Volume 25) presents a selection and analysis of outstanding examples of miniature painting and calligraphy.

In 2000, the collection of manuscripts kept in the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan was entered in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register as one of the richest manuscript repositories in the world. The publication is intended not only for members of the academic research community, but also for broad local and foreign audiences, as well as the younger generation interested in the rich cultural heritage of Uzbekistan. The project without any analogue in the world has been carried out due to favorable conditions created in the years of Independence and to the personal attention of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to such issues as the careful preservation, enrichment and augmentation of tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the Uzbek people.

The readers of the book-albums may broaden their concept of the rich culture and art of Uzbekistan and watch the documentary on the disk attached to the book-album. The pages are also marked with QR-codes for scanning with a tablet or smartphone to get additional visual information in 3D format.The “Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan in World Collections” multivolume series provides for publication of other books devoted to the unique masterpieces of the historical and cultural legacy of Uzbekistan.
