VOLUME XXVIII. CENTRAL ASIAN HERITAGE IN THE COLLECTIONS OF CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY PART I: CENTRAL ASIAN ART IN THE FITZWILLIAM MUSEUM
This book is the first volume in the series ‘Central Asian Heritage in the Collections of Cambridge University’, which is a part of the larger series entitled ‘The Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan in the World collections’. This volume edited by Dr Firuza Melville, is dedicated to ‘Central Asian art in the Fitzwilliam Museum’ and presents artefacts from Transoxania from antiquity until the late Islamic period. It includes chapters written by experts in their fields on numismatics (Dr Adrian Popescu), sculpture and jewellery (Dr Wannaporn Rienjang), ceramics (Dr Melanie Gibson), book art (Dr Firuza Melville) and textiles (Professor Elmira Gyul).
The publication targets various audiences of different age, especially the young generation: from specialists in art history, literature, history and material culture to the wider public, inside the country and abroad, interested in the rich and ancient cultural heritage of Uzbekistan. The project without any analogue in the world has being implemented due to favorable conditions created in the years of Independence and to the persanal attention of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to such issues as the careful preservation, enrichment and augmentation of tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the Uzbek people. The unprecedented publication project introduces Central Asian collections scattered around the world became possible thanks to the favourable conditions created during the independence of Uzbekistan and the personal patronage of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, aiming to preserve and disseminate the knowledge about the tangible and intangible historical, cultural and intellectual legacy of the Uzbek people.
The multi-volume series ‘Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan in World Collections’ provides for publication of other books devoted to the unique masterpieces of the historical and cultural legacy of Uzbekistan.
