Dungan wall embroideries

The State Museum of the History of Uzbekistan contains a collection of more than three hundred original objects of Dungan culture and everyday life of the late 19th - early 20th century.

Most of them were collected by museum researchers, including the famous ethnographer Turda Mirgiyazov, in 1927 – 1928 in the village of Shortyuba in Kazakhstan and the cities of Tokmak, Pishpek, the village of Kara-Kunguz in Kyrgyzstan.

Great importance in the traditional Dungan house played room wall embroideries and fabric decorations. The original form, original drawing, talent and imagination of the masters turned the elements of home decoration into masterpieces of folk art. Wall embroidery has the form of vases, medallions and other traditional items related to the concept of beauty and wealth. They are made of fabric on a cardboard frame or stuffed with cotton and usually consist of several embroidered pieces of different shapes.
