Gifts sent by the Bukhara emirs to Alexander III and Nicholas II

The Uzbek department of the Russian State Ethnographic Museum contains items presented by Bukhara emirs to Alexander III, Nicholas II and their families as ambassodorial and personal gifts are especially significant from an ethnographic, artistic, and historical point of view.

Such gifts usually included robes with golden and silk embroidery, fabrics, embroidered curtains and tablecloths, jewellery, gem-encrusted weapons, and ceremonial caparison. Made by the leading artisans of Bukhara, they demonstrated high traditions of local crafts and even now they are a gem of the RME collection.

You can learn more about this topic in the book-album "The Collection of the Russian Museum of Ethnography" (Volume II) (St. Petersburg, Russia) from the series "The Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan".

The general sponsor of the project is the oilfield services company Eriell-Group.
