Jewelry art on the territory of Uzbekistan

The history of jewelry art in the territory of Uzbekistan is rooted deeply in the past.

Since the 19th – early 20th centuries, it is going through one of the brightest periods of its development. Bukhara, Khiva, Samarkand, Tashkent, cities of the Fergana Valley were famous for their jewelry.

Jewelers decorated everything that the people loved and revered: horse harness, cases for storing bowls, weapons, buttons, men’s belts, etc. The distinctive features of the Uzbek jewelry are an original form based on a combination of traditions and jewelers’ free flight of imagination. And jewelers reached the pinnacle of perfection in women’s, especially bridal, jewelry. They were always perceived as a talisman, and possession of such items as an introduction to beauty.

Massive belt pendants, richly decorated with engraved patterns, enamel, niello, semiprecious stones were known among men’s jewelry. Turquoise (feruza), carnelian (khakik), corals (marzhon), mother-of-pearl (sadaf), precious stones, colored glass were used for inlays.
