Karakalpak collection of American researcher Adam Albion

Karakalpak collection of American researcher Adam Albion

In 1997, American researcher Adam Albion for the first time came to Nukus, Karakalpakstan, to participate in an international conference. During the trip, he was extremely happy to visit the famous State Museum of Arts named after I. V. Savitsky.

It was that visit that stimulated the formation of his future collection.

It was from that day that the acquisition of at least one such kiymeshek item became a dream for the future collector.

And it finally came true. After that, for more than 20 years, he was assembling his collection, which now includes all the main types of Karakalpak art: carpets, clothes and shoes, embroidered household items, horse gear, jewelry and so on.

Among the valuable items from the Albion collection we present, perhaps, the most important are several carpets with pile - indispensable elements of the interior decoration of the Karakalpak yurt.
