Modari Khan mausoleum in Kokand

 Modari Khan mausoleum in Kokand

Initially, the Modari Khan tomb, which translates as "Mother of Khan", represented the traditional type of Ferganian memorial architecture.

What did the complex consist of?

The architectural complex included a structure with a dome and portal, a mosque to perform funeral rites and a fenced yard in which the grave was located. However, the beautiful entrance pavilion is what has survived of the ensemble.

Who built the mausoleum?

The mausoleum was built by order of the great poet Nadira over the grave of the deceased mother of her husband Umar Khan, the ruler of Kokand.

According to legend, ceramists (kulols) from Rishtan and local masters in ganch carving were involved in the construction and decoration of the Modari Khan mausoleum.
