Enjoy a selection of interesting facts about the Samanid mausoleum

Built in the ninth century, the Samanid mausoleum is a true pearl of Central Asia.  Made of bricks of a sandy shade, it is devoid of the multicolor we are used to.

The mausoleum with a domed roof looks lacy, openwork, almost weightless.

The dynastic mausoleum of the Samanids in the historical center of Bukhara was built at the turn of the 9th and 10th centuries by Ismail Samani.

The mausoleum is one of the oldest monuments of Central Asian monumental architecture, a recognized masterpiece of Islamic memorial architecture of Central Asia and a monument of world importance, the only surviving building in the former large necropolis of the dynasty and in the Bukhara oasis of the Samanid era.

The mausoleum of the Early Middle Ages together with other monuments located in the historical center of Bukhara is included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
