Samarkand State Museum-Reserve

The Samarkand State Museum-Reserve occupies a special place among the largest museums in Uzbekistan.

It boasts some of the richest collections of monuments of ancient and medieval Uzbek history and culture.

It was in Samarkand that the first Central Asian museum was established in 1874.

However, it became opened for visitors only 20 years later, in 1896.

Its richest collection comprises about 250,000 items, which makes it possible to trace the history of the culture of peoples inhabiting Uzbekistan from the most ancient times to the present day.
