“SILK STRINGS” OF UZBEK DUTAR

In the framework of the media event “Uzbekistan and Japan on the Great Silk Road”, in Tokyo on December 16, a bright event took place – presentation of the documentary film “Silk Strings”.

The film is dedicated to the winner of the International Maqom Festival in Shakhrisabz, Maschu Komazdaki. The young resident of Tokyo, pianist Maschu, by the will of fate, arrived to Uzbekistan as a volunteer, where she got acquainted with the national Uzbek instrument “dutar” and its silk strings. The story of Maschu Komazdaki, her love for the culture and art of Uzbekistan, for maqom and dutar, formed the basis of the film created by Japanese filmmakers with the support of National Agency “Uzbekkino”.

Filming took place in Uzbekistan – in the cities of Tashkent, Bukhara, Shakhrisabz, in Japan – Tokyo and Kyoto, as well as in Estonia and Britain. The film lasting 60 minutes will captivate the audience with its lyricism and musicality.

“The preservation of the centuries – old cultural heritage of Uzbekistan is one of the most important tasks facing our country”. The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev pays great attention to the careful preservation and development of Uzbek national art of maqom. He put forward a number of initiatives in this area that are being successfully implemented. Thus, on a regular basis, in Uzbekistan, International Forum of the Art of Maqom began to be held, a unique book volume “Maqom” was published, Shashmaqom was included in the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. “I am sure that the film “Silk Strings” will become an important link in the development of this unique art form”, said Firdavs Abdukhalikov, head of National Agency “Uzbekkino”.
