Uzbek Artifacts from the Stibbert Museum in Florence

Do you know that rich Uzbek heritage is kept in Italy?

So, the Stibbert Museum, one of the most interesting and amazing places in Florence, stores some Uzbek artifacts.

The costumes and weapons acquired in 1981 by Senator Giulio Adamoli, a respected member of the Italian Geographical Society,  during his travels in West Asia and the Middle East, were significant for the museum’s image.

Most of them are rare and colorful Uzbek and Kyrgyz costumes and accessories purchased in Turkestan in 1869-70.

Adamoli himself also wore such clothes.

In his memoirs, Adamoli wrote about how for many months he cruised between Tashkent and Samarkand as a guest of diplomatic missions.

He stayed in touch with many local figures, even met the artist Vasily Vasilyevich Vereshchagin, who later became famous connoisseur of the East.
