The collection of the State Museum of Arts of the Republic of Karakalpakstan named after I.V. Savitsky has a lot of architectural ornaments (capitals and bases of shaped columns, glazed tiles, etc.), various kinds of pottery (khums, humchi, pitchers, vases, bowls, dishes, and cups), all kinds of jewelry (necklaces, pendants, rings, earrings, bracelets), samples of small arms (bronze arrowheads), as well as an extensive collection of silver and copper coins from within the 3rd – 18th centuries.
Among the samples of dishes of the 12th – 13th centuries in the collection of the State Museum of Arts of Karakalpakstan, the socalled “luster” vessels are of special attention as they distinguish for their luxurious and elegant look among the rest of the ceramic pieces. “Luster” dishes are also distinguished for their thematic paintings, depicting the picturesque scenes with humans, animals and birds on the background of flowering plants in the eastern miniature style. The situation is similar with the Iranian ceramics ‘minai’, some examples of which are stored in the Museum’s collection. For example, a live scene on a piece of the bowl attracts the attention, where the two riders are depicted racing to each other at full tilt and exchanging remarks. The rush of riders is depicted by the flapping headscarves out of military helmets of the riders and outstretched bodies of horses and figures of the riders moving forward.
