What characterizes the work of artists of Uzbekistan in the 1970s – the first half of the 1980s?

Painting of Uzbekistan in 1970 – the first half of the 1980s is distinguished by the diversity and mutual influence of artistic and stylistic trends, the appeal to a wide range of traditions, the evolution of the genre structure, a broad thematic circle, the diversity of creative individuals.

The decorative style is developed by the works of S. Abdullaev, Sh. Abdurashidov, A. Mirzaev and R. Shadyev. Works of A. Mirzaev “Autumn labors”, “Sukok”, “Women of Parkent” and “Red Aktash” are typical for this style, when painting is a letter of colour in which people and nature merge with each other.

At the same time, we cannot deny that growing associative and metaphorical artistic thinking reveals its internal potential in the works of the various artists, in each case, refracted through their individual vision of the world, the nature of the picturesque-plastic searches. Examples of this are the works of G. Umarbekov, B. Jalalov, M. Tokhtaev, S. Alibekov, G. Baimatov and A. Isaev. Thus, in the works of G. Umarbekov “Houssein Baikar and Alisher Navoi during childhood”, “New Landscape” or in the works of B. Jalalov “Self-portrait” from the collection of the State Museum of Arts, we can feel new trends in art, a wider understanding of the artistic tradition and an appeal to the national sources of their own culture.
