According to the information in the book-album "Architectural Epigraphy of Uzbekistan" from the project "Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan in World Collections," Sayyid Abu-l-Ma'ali was relocated to Shakhrisabz by Amir Timur in his youth (1371) and later often accompanied the Sahibkiran on various campaigns. It was in Shakhrisabz that Sayyid Abu-l-Ma'ali established his family, and a special mausoleum was constructed for his and his descendants' burial.
The Gumbazi Sayyidan mausoleum was built in 1437 in Shakhrisabz for the Termez branch of Sayyids, descendants of the Prophet, by order of Amir Timur's grandson, the famous Mirzo Ulugbek (reigned 1409-1449).
