The working group of the project Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan in World Collections is making the first attempt to systematize and comment on all known objects related to Central Asia found on the territory of Korea.
The work is supervised by Sergey Laptev, a member of the Board of the World Society for the Study, Preservation and Popularization of the Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan and a special researcher at the Miho Museum, and assisted and supported by museum researchers and scholars from Korea.
A preliminary catalog of objects of material culture has already been compiled. Images and annotations to masterpieces related to Central Asia are provided by scholars from museums in Korea.
The collection of the expected book-album includes jewelry, weapons and various metal items, glass vessels, stone figurines and other rarities dated to the Kushan and Sogdian periods. At the moment, the work on the text of the book is coming to an end.
The book will tell the readers from different countries about the historical ties of Koreans in Central Asia, and Koreans in Uzbekistan — about the role of their homeland on the Great Silk Road, which connected various cultures in ancient times. It is expected to give a new impetus to the study of the culture, art, literature and history of this wonderful country, which made a huge contribution to the development of contacts on the Great Silk Road, and will serve the cause of the cultural renaissance of peoples in multinational Uzbekistan.
The book-album Korea and Central Asia on the Great Silk Road will be presented before the end of 2024.
