Book-album about art objects and unique artifacts from Uzbekistan in museum collections of Azerbaijan is being prepared for publication

The office of the World Society for the Study, Preservation and Popularization of Cultural Heritage in Tashkent was visited by Khadija Veli kyzy Asadova, Deputy Director for Academic Affairs at the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art.

The parties discussed practical issues of preparing a new book-album from the Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan in World Collections. The volume will be dedicated to Uzbek collections in three leading museums of Azerbaijan - the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum and Azerbaijan National Museum of Art.
"The Azerbaijan National Museum of Art keeps a wide range of interesting exhibits relating to the culture and art of different countries and peoples. The Uzbek collection is very diverse. It includes late 19th-century suzanis, a tablecloth made of rags, a silver service, a set for ablution and a handmade belt, as well as a casket covered with blue enamel – a gift from the emir of Bukhara. Other rare artifacts include a facsimile of the Koran, published in 1905," said Khadija Veli kyzy Asadova, Deputy Director for Academic Affairs at the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art.
She noted that paintings by famous Uzbek artists are also displayed at the museum. In total, the Uzbek collection consists of 15 exhibits.
There is a separate section in the book-album telling about the collection of the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan. The chief curator of the museum, Associate Professor Mahfuza Haji kyzy Zeynalova, described it in more detail at an online meeting.

"The museum keeps a unique collection of of Uzbek items dated to the 19th century, consisting of more than 260 exhibits. These are items made of ikat fabric, embroidered wall panels, brass and copper jugs, washing devices inlaid with turquoise, embossed dishes with semiprecious stones, weapons, clothing and many other things.
In addition, the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan boasts an impressive collection of coins minted at the times of the Sassanids, the Caliphate, Seljuks, Temurids, Sheibanids and Osmanids.
The museum's special pride is a photo portrait of the Emir of Bukhara, Said Mir Abdul Ahad Khan (1885-1910). In the left corner of the photo there is an inscription: 'English photography. Baku", which indicates that the photo was taken during one of the visits of the Emir to Baku.
The gifts of the Emir of Bukhara – a case for the Koran made of gilded silver, as well as a silver service with gilt, enameled, decorated with blackening and engraving – kept in a special department of the museum, deserve special attention," Mahfuza Haji kyzy Zeynalova remarked.
The pilot version of the book is expected to be presented at the next 7th International Congress of the World Society in the summer of 2023.
