Kamal ad-din Behzad's Miniatures
During his long and eventful life, Kamal ad-din Behzad produced rich artistic heritage.
However, it still poses a problem for researchers, since there are only a few manuscripts where miniatures were reliably created by the great master. These works include Bustan Saadi, Mantik at-Tair and Khamsa.
There are a number of other works attributed to Behzad based on signatures, technique and style analysis and various legends.
The most famous of them are currently kept in the following collections:
Topkapı Palace Museum Library,
Golestan Palace Library,
Johns Hopkins University,
John W. Garrett Library,
Walters Art Museum,
Harvard Art Museum,
Collection of Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan,
National Library of France,
National Library of Russia, St. Petersburg,
Freer Gallery of Art, Smithsonian Institution,
British Library,
Bodleian Library,
Istanbul University Library,
Mashhad Shrine Library,
Unfortunately, there is still no summary work studying the history of Behzad's works or miniatures attributed to him in various museum collections across the world.
The Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan in World Collections project has done much to establish contacts with the above institutions in order to obtain images of miniatures for publication, revealing the phenomenon of the creativity and personality of this outstanding artist.
