Samarkand State Museum-Reserve

The Samarkand State Museum-Reserve occupies a special place among the largest museums of Uzbekistan.

It boasts one of the richest collections of monuments of ancient and medieval national history and culture.

It is based on the first museum of Samarkand, which was established in 1874 on the basis of archaeological, numismatic, ethnographic and geological collections.

The museum was officially opened in 1896.

The museum-reserve's collection consists of many thousands of exhibits, most of which are recognized rarities.

The archaeological collection numbering about 50 thousand items is rightfully considered the richest and most diverse.

It includes unique examples of jewelry from the Bronze Age, figurines and sculptures, as well as ancient and medieval ceramics.
