Unique suzanis and metal items: World Society delegation acquainted themselves with Uzbek collection at Azerbaijan National Museum of Art

The delegation of the World Society for the Study, Preservation and Popularization of the Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan visited Baku and had  meetings with the directors of Azerbaijan's leading museums. The main topic of the meetings was to discuss the preparation of illustrated book-albums from the Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan in World Collections series dedicated to Uzbek collections in Azerbaijan.

These volumes are expected to include artifacts of Uzbek origin stored in the leading museums of Azerbaijan - the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art, National Museum of History of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum and Institute of Manuscripts named after Muhammad Fuzuli, National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan.

During the visit, the World Society delegation had negotiations with the director of the Museum of Art Chingiz Farzaliyev, where the parties discussed practical aspects of publishing the illustrated book-album.

The Azerbaijan National Museum of Art keeps a wide range of interesting exhibits relating to the culture and art of different countries and peoples. The Uzbek collection is represented by a late 19th-century suzani, patchwork-style tablecloth, unique silver service, set for ablution, handmade belt and other items.

"We welcome the initiative to publish this book-album demonstrated by the World Society. It is extremely important that our peoples will be able to acquaint themselves with amazing masterpieces of the Uzbek collection more closely," Chingiz Farzaliyev, Director of the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art, said at the meeting. "The historical and cultural ties between our peoples are very strong, and I am convinced that the materials to be published in the future book will be interesting and useful to the people of both Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan."
