THE WORLD SOCIETY PRESENTS A BOOK-ALBUM ABOUT THE LIFE AND WORK OF KAMAL AD-DIN BEHZAD
A unique research Kamal ad-din Behzad - the One Who Shamed Mani has been presented within the framework of the international scientific conference «Works of Kamal ad-din Behzad through the Eyes of the World’s Scientists».
The name of the album Kamal ad-din Behzad - the One Who Shamed Mani has its own history, which goes back to the distant past. In the Middle Ages, many admired the talent of the miniature painter from Herat, who surpassed in skill even the famous artist Mani, who lived in the 3rd century and founded the religion of Manichaeism.
The uniqueness of the publication lies in the fact that for the first time it explored and published miniatures stored in the British Library, the Freer Gallery, the Topkapi Palace collection, the Gulistan Palace Library, the Metropolitan Museum, the Russian National Library, in the collection of Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan, and many others. Thanks to the efforts of the World Society, now these miniatures will become public knowledge available for researchers and all admirers of the Muslim Oriental art around the world.
The curator Zukhra Rakhimova told about the secrets of work on the album Kamal ad-din Behzad - the one who shamed Mani.
– Last year, in 2021, on the occasion of the 565th anniversary of the outstanding medieval miniaturist Kamal ad-din Behzad, the author and head of the project "Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan in the World Collections" F. Abdukhalikov initiated the idea of creating a richly illustrated album intended for national and foreign readers. Behzad occupies a special place in the culture of Uzbekistan, and therefore the idea of publishing an album is extremely relevant, because despite the fact that a lot of works are devoted to the work of K. Behzad, he is known mainly to specialists in our republic. This is all the more important because there has not yet been such a publication designed for a wide range of readers and, above all, young people in Uzbekistan.
- Behzad was and remains an outstanding artist who created a fundamental school of oriental miniature, - said Frederic Bressand, head of the Association for the Study of the History and Art of the Timurids in France, a member of the World Society for the Study, Preservation and Promotion of the Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan.
Scientists and researchers from Turkey, Iran, Azerbaijan, France, and India noted the artist's invaluable contribution to the development of miniature art and his special place in the history of world fine art.
