A rare architectural structure that has suffered loss

On the crypt and on the surface of the sarcophagus prepared by Amir Temur for himself in Shakhrisabz there are various inscriptions, verses, formulas and prayers quoted from the Quran.

Inside this niche there is also a square frame-shaped cartouche with an inscription that contains various prayers including the text of the «Pious Prayer» ( دعاء القنوت ). But according to the conclusions of the researchers of the publication “Architectural Epigraphy of Uzbekistan” of the project “Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan in the World Collections”, it is written in Thuluth script, calligraphic writing. There are losses. The text of the prayer recorded in the inscription is as follows:‌‌

[Oh Allah!] Save us from fire, from the Underworld, from hell and its sorrowful torments! And relieve our fright of Day of Judgment and its worries! Do not lead us astray on the Day of Judgment, oh, the one who gives food and salvation of the soul, oh, the one who listens [to the prayers], oh, the one who protects, oh, the one who knows, oh, the one who is forever alive and gives life to everything, oh, the one who has greatness, honor and might, oh, the Wise one! [To our Lord] Muhammad let blessings be! Prayers and greetings!

Oh Allah! We invoke help from You, and ask You to forgive us. We believe in You and rely on You. We thank You, and we are not those who do not believe in You. Oh Allah, we worship You, we devote our prayers to You, we kneel in front of You, we reach out for You and we hurry and hope for Your mercy, and we are afraid of Your punishment, because it will inevitably reach unbelievers.

Oh Allah! Guide us to the right way among those who You have guided. Relieve us of misfortunes among those who You have relieved. Takes us to those whose deeds are directed by You, who is protected by You. Bless us for everything that You give. Protect us from evil that is defined by You. You are the Assigner, and no one can decide against You. You punish [the undiligent], but You cannot be punished. You reproach [the evildoers], but no one can reproach You. Truly, the one who You support will never be despicable. And the one who You are hostile to will never be strong. Great is Your benevolence, You are above all that does not conform with You.
