Where is the observatory located?
Maidanak Observatory is located on the mountain of the same name, near the town of Kitab. The total area of the observatory is approximately 32 hectares.
When did the observatory open?
On the western peak of the Maidanak Plateau, it was decided in 1970 to establish the high-altitude, exclusive Maidanak Observatory.
Interesting facts:
The first astrovideo in the CIS was filmed in Maidanak.
In the 1980s, there was a unit of the USSR Military and Space Forces, known as OKIC Maidanak, on the nearby summit of Maidanak Mountain.
