   The southernmost part of the territory of Uzbekistan is the valley of Surkhan, where the waters of the great Amu Darya, once called Oxus and the rapid Jayhun ,flow.

These lands used to be the vital part of northern Bactria.

In the early 1st-3rd centuries, Kushan statehood spread here - a land full of legends and mysteries.
