At the present time, these inscriptions have been lost.
We have used photographs taken by late architect V. Filimonov which remained in the archive of V. Shishkin. The texts had been left by pilgrims. They are written in different scripts (naskh, nastalik, some types of italic scripts). Some of them are quite old and may be regarded as the earliest inscriptions of this kind in Central Asia documented by researchers.
The Prophet – peace be upon him! – said:
This world is an abode of dust, and decease is an abode of eternity.
Right is the Messenger of Allah!
[Written by] paltry [servant of Allah] Mahmud Ilaqi.‘Abd … Muhammad wrote it… In the holy month of Rabi‘ al-akhir, of the year seven hundred sixty third [February-March, 1362].
