Nicholas Walmsley: Expanding Horizons of Uzbek Culture
In early February 2024, Nicholas Walmsley, a renowned specialist in the literature of Alisher Navoi from the United Kingdom, visited the WOSCU office in Tashkent.
Walmsley, who has been studying the works of Alisher Navoi for over 15 years, expressed gratitude for the invitation to participate in the 7th WOSCU Congress in Samarkand, where he attended for the first time as a participant. "I was delighted to take part in such a significant academic forum, especially since it was my first experience attending such congresses," noted Nicholas.
The primary reason for his participation in the congress was his expert interest in the works of Alisher Navoi. "I was invited based on my knowledge and interest in the works of Alisher Navoi," he explained. Currently, Nicholas is translating about 300 gazelles of Alisher Navoi.
"I want to emphasize the importance of the work carried out by WOSCU, and I am convinced that these efforts contribute to a deeper understanding of the history and culture of Uzbekistan. The quality of publications in the series 'Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan in World Collections,' the broad scope, and the academic knowledge presented by WOSCU are impressive and provide us all with the opportunity to delve even deeper into the culture of amazing Uzbekistan," he remarked.
He also emphasized the importance of establishing strong connections between cultural and historical organizations in Uzbekistan and their international partners.
"Thanks to such visits and the exchange of knowledge among scholars and specialists, Uzbek literature and culture are gaining new horizons and broad international recognition, further contributing to development in this field," concluded Walmsley.
