The uniqueness of the Turkestan avantgarde was the fact that it got acquired the experience and achievements of the Russian avantgarde (and the Russian avantgarde, in turn, acquired the European experience) with the artistic experience of the Central Asian traditional culture.
In the 1920s, artists were in the direct interaction with traditional art, which determined the atmosphere of urban life, closely associated with the traditional way of life, customs, rites, expressing the aesthetic representation of the people passed over for centuries, in order to feel its nature, evaluate its beauty and impact, to get inspired of it, and create.
The researchers wrote: “Turkestan was not just the ethnographic picture for them, but the source of the avantgarde perception of the world. On the local soil, fertilized with artistic heritage of the past centuries, the European ‘isms’ got acquired their Eastern sound, and traditional forms filled with ‘avantgarde’ meaning”.
