BBC and the World Society will present to the world a unique project "In the footsteps of Osman`S Quran "

Filming of a documentary about a sacred relic for Muslims will start in Tashkent, St. Petersburg and Ufa.

The BBC Uzbek Service in cooperation with NAESMI with the assistance of international historians and Koranologists and sponsorship of the international oil service company Eriell Group will create a documentary film about Osman's Koran.

Within the framework of the ZOOM conference with the participation of the chairman of the board of the World Society for the Study, Preservation and Popularization of Cultural Heritage Firdavs Abdukhalikov, the author of the film is the journalist of the BBC Uzbek Service Luiza Khudaykulova and the editor of the BBC Uzbek Service Khairullo Ubaidullaev.  These days, on the basis of archival documents, work is being carried out to restore the circumstances of the return of the Koran of Osman to Uzbekistan in 1923.

The history of the wanderings of the holy book during the period when it ended up outside the Muslim world is still full of mysteries, the answers to which the authors of the film will try to find.  How did it happen that the priceless relic was sold for 100 rubles?  What is the fate of the fifty copies made in St. Petersburg and gone for fabulous money to the countries of the East?  What kind of decree "thanks" to which the holy Koran of Osman ended up in the muftiate of Ufa, the then center of Islam in Russia, and the role of Lenin in its fate - it was by his decision that Osman's Koran was brought to Tashkent in a special carriage of a special train through Orenburg and transferred to his historical homeland  …

The filmmakers will try to find answers to these and many other questions.  They will tell how the Russian general Abramov at the end of the 19th century bought the holy Koran from the mullahs of the Khoja Akhrar mosque for a symbolic reward, handed it over to the Governor-General of Turkestan Konstantin von Kaufman, who sent the holy manuscript to Russia, - so it ended up in the department of manuscripts of the Imperial Library in  St. Petersburg.  They will also present all the vicissitudes of his return to his historical homeland, up to the transfer to the Khast Imam religious complex in Tashkent.

A real decoration of the picture will be the integration into the tape of the narration of archival documents and dramatizations of historical events, recreated with the help of vivid artistic images in locations that recreate the necessary atmosphere.  The film will include footage of the chronicle with eyewitness accounts of the transfer of the Osman`s Koran to the Administration of Muslims of Central Asia and Kazakhstan in 1989.
It is planned that the premiere of the film will take place within the framework of the Tashkent Film Festival, which will be held in the capital on September 29 - October 3, 2021.
