Where is the palace located?

The palace is located in the eastern part of Khiva, where it was built by Allakuli Khan.

How long did it take to have the palace built?

The construction of the palace lasted about eight years, from 1830 to 1838. The khan expected the it would take no more than two years to finish the palace and was very angry at the delay. During the eight years, many builders fell out of his favor.

Harem

The southern part of the harem courtyard features a series of small iwans, four of which were intended for the wives of the khan, and the fifth, richly decorated one served as a living room for the khan himself. The harem is designed in accordance with the Khorezmian tradition of decorating the female half of the house.

Russian stove maker

Inside the palace you can find the carriage of a Russian stove maker who came to build a fireplace for the khan. According to legend, the khan's wives liked the outlandish vehicle so much that the stove maker decided to leave it as a gift to the harem.
